Melissa Meyer

Following in the tradition of Abstract Expressionism, Meyer's paintings explore the grace of the gesture and the lyrical beauty of color and form. Marked by a freedom and ease in style, the colorful shapes float on the canvas, sometimes mingling and at other times maintaining their own form. Inspired by the fluidity of her watercolors, Meyer's work speaks of pleasure, spirit and independence.

Melissa Meyer has exhibited extensively in the US and abroad with more than 120 solo and group shows since 1974. Her work appears in numerous public and private collections including: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Museum of Modern Art and The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, as well as many corporate collections from Arthur Anderson & Co. in Chicago to Zale Corporation in Dallas. Based in New York, Meyer has been represented by the gallery since 1994. A catalogue of her 2000 exhibition of paintings, with a text by Allan Gurganus, is available.
